Best Practice works with pharmaceutical companies to design research projects and host conferences related to specific issues related to medical and public policy. These conferences and research projects do not focus on regulatory issues; rather they are focused on specific policy issues related to a single drug or class of drugs. Each of these projects is typically funded by an unrestricted educational grant from a single company. Best Practice takes full responsibility for planning the projects and convenes groups of experts to design a research plan or a conference that gathers together representatives from broad groups, including therapeutic experts, managed care, managed behavioral health, public policy, economics, and statistics. Issues covered might include reimbursement, restricted formularies, generic substitution, or defining new therapeutic indications. Most conferences and research projects result in papers to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals.
Some Targeted Policy-related Conferences convened by Best Practice include:
2003 Conference
“Public Health Implications of Smokeless Tobacco Use as a Harm Reduction Strategy”
Paper accepted for publication and currently in press in the American Journal of Public Health
2002 Conference
“The Case for Physician Choice: Implications for Restricted Formularies”
