Spacer Services - Consensus Development Conferences
Since 2000, Best Practice has collaborated with a variety of non-profit organizations to address controversies in clinical trials methodology and clinical practice in neuropsychopharmacology. The consensus development process that emerged from these discussions has filled a critical niche that was not being addressed by other efforts in the United States, or other countries. It brings together key representatives from federal agencies (NIH, FDA, CMS), patient and family-based advocacy, the leaders in the therapeutic research area from the scientific community, and senior R&D leadership at the major pharmaceutical companies with commercial interests in the topic area.

Topics have included the treatment of chronic insomnia in adults, the assessment of treatments for bipolar disorder in children and adolescents, the treatment of insomnia in children and adolescents, the treatment of aggressive symptoms in pediatric populations, and the treatment of behavioral and psychological disturbances in patients with dementia. A primary goal of each consensus conferences is the preparation of a paper for submission for publication to a major archival journal. Recent papers have appeared in Pediatrics and the American Journal of Public Health. Most important, a number of the conferences have resulted in significant changes in protocol designs in clinical trials and/or in recommended clinical practice.
